This year’s conference will feature topics that are relevant to woodlot owners and managers from all walks of life. We’ve invited presenters who will capture your imagination and provide you with a range of information about managing your woodlot.

Forest Biomass the “New” Green Energy (Speaker, TBA)
The utilization and harvest of forest biomass for energy is in its infancy and there are still many unanswered questions from the forest ecosystem perspective and on forest economics. Come learn more about this new emerging trend of using biomass from our forests to generate green energy.

The Last Stand (Speaker, Peter Kelly, co-author of The Last Stand)
The most ancient and least disturbed forest ecosystem in eastern North America clings to the vertical cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment in southern Ontario. Peter is co-author of The Last Stand; a Journey through the Ancient Cliff-Face Forest of the Niagara Escarpment and will provide an account of the discovery of this ancient forest, of the miraculous properties of the trees forming this forest, and of what is was like to be one of the researchers to live, work and study within this forest.

Managing Lowland Hardwood Forests (Speaker, Martin Streit, Leeds Stewardship)
Our lowland hardwood forests are some of the most productive forest sites in southern Ontario. Martin will expound on his 20+ years experience managing these forest types by providing some insight into the factors in selecting the most appropriate silvicultural system for the management of these important forest ecosystems.

Edible Wilds (Speaker, Dennis Eaton, Fleming College)
What are all of those plants growing in and around your woodlot? Did you know that many of them can provide you with nutrition or healing medicines? Dennis will provide you with information about native edible wild plants found in your woodlot, and discuss their many uses, including nutritional, medicinal, and other outdoor uses.

Capturing the Full Value of a Timber Sale (Speaker, David Puttock, Silv-Econ Ltd.)
Selling stand timber while maximizing your financial returns can be complex. Learn about the advantages and disadvantages of selling by a lump sum bid and a shared volume sale, closing the deal, and working in harmony with your logger.

Advance registration is required: Registration is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. You must register and pay in advance by cheque, Visa or Mastercard, prior to March 12, 2010. Your registration fee includes lunch. Registration closes on March 12, 2010.
